Thomas J. Scott, DVM, MS
Originally from southeastern Idaho, Dr. Tom Scott began his love of large animal medicine working on the family farm. He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioveterinary Science. He then attended Colorado State University where he graduated with a Masters of Science degree in Equine Reproductive Physiology. His graduate project involved looking at differences in equine oocyte viability following in vivo and in vitro maturation systems. In addition, Dr. Scott was involved in the commercial oocyte transfer and embryo transfer programs, teaching continuing education courses to equine breeders and veterinarians, and working on various research projects through the C.S.U. Equine Reproduction Lab. Following graduate school, Dr. Scott attended Colorado State University where he graduated in 2004 with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
In May of 2004, Dr. Scott was accepted into the veterinary internship program at Performance Equine Associates in Whitesboro, TX. After completing the one year internship, he was hired as an associate veterinarian at Performance Equine where he developed the frozen semen program, provided veterinary management for several breeding farms, and assisted with the commercial embryo transfer program. He also worked closely with Texas A&M University on research projects involving low-dose insemination preparations, oocyte collection from deceased mares, and transfer of embryos produced by nuclear transfer (cloning).
Dr. Scott joined Idaho Equine Hospital in October of 2006. His areas of professional interest include embryo transfer, broodmare management, frozen semen preparation, stallion semen centrifugation/low-dose insemination preparation, collection/freezing of epididymal sperm from deceased stallions, and oocyte transfer. In addition to his professional career, Dr. Scott loves to spend time with his beautiful wife and family and be involved in local church activities.
