R. Stuart Shoemaker, DVM

 

 

 

Dr. Robert S. (Stuart) Shoemaker is a native of Greenville, South Carolina.  He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1984.  Dr. Shoemaker then completed a four year surgery residency at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and as a result became a Board Certified Surgeon.  After working for one year, Dr. Shoemaker returned to Louisiana State as the Director of Equine Sports Medicine.  His career as an equine surgeon took a sabbatical in 1990 as Dr. Shoemaker became a faculty member at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Equine Surgery.  He taught equine surgery for 5 years before moving to Idaho Falls as a surgeon and owner of Eagle Rock Equine Surgical Center.  In 1997, Dr. Shoemaker made the move to the western side of the state where he joined Idaho Equine Hospital as a staff surgeon and co-owner.  He has excelled in the practice of lameness, sports medicine and surgery.  He is an active member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and has served on their Board of Directors since December 2005.  He also is a member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association, as well as being an adjunct faculty member at Washington State University.   He has published papers and given many presentations in the area of equine lameness and developed a loyal following of clients who seek his expertise.  Dr. Shoemaker shares his life with his wife Julia and 3 sons.
